According to recent surveys family business represents 90% of the total number of companies, with 80% of the national income, and employs 75% of labor force. The case addresses the challenges faced by Port said for metal manufacturing (MOG): Dealing with waves of uncertainty Port said for metal manufacturing (MOG). The challenges faced are mainly attributed to past experience from MOG Group mother companies. Due to lack of governance and institutionalization MOG was separated into smaller companies leading to dilution of wealth, and some family disputes. The case covers the history of MOG group, its founding, growth into being one of the largest manufacturers of a portfolio of products in Egypt, and finally MOG's separation. The case addresses the challenges related to family business. The urgency of this case stems from family businesses representing 90% of the total economy in Egypt. Some of the challenges that are examined include governance, separation of ownership from management, and succession planning. The case is followed by separate teaching notes which aim to find solutions to the existing challenges.
