Abstract:
This case addresses the different developmental stages of Nahdet Misr Publishing Group which offers integrated educational and cultural solutions. The Group has faced several complexities arising from the complications of family relationships shadowing the business. This layer is one of the biggest vulnerabilities of family businesses and which makes the mission of their continuity after the founder’s death harder than the process of their initial foundation. Moreover, it has been facing accelerated changes in all generational, technological, market, and financial aspects; in addition to growing complexities in its business model and management activities with the passage of the business leadership from one generation to another. Nahdet Misr is currently lead by Dalia Ibrahim, the CEO and the chairman’s daughter. Since joining the business, Dalia has demonstrated outstanding performance, bringing in new ideas and tapping on new opportunities that contributed to Nahdet Misr’s growth and expansion, both locally and internationally. The case depicts the different challenges that the family business went through during the past eight decades and how it survived them. It also highlights the macroeconomic and industry-related challenges currently facing Nahdet Misr Group. The study ends up with a simple question about how the business could maintain its sustainability and ensure its continuity in the future.
